So we're going over the heating system on the 644E, the guys did a fantastic job of scraping out 50 pounds of grease from the under seat storage and scrubbing all the ducts out that were full of some kind of concrete dust. Cleaned the heater core out a couple times, the blower cages, and just took degreaser and a hose inside the cab, 8 or 9 wash cycles to get all the gunk, dirt and dust out. Repainted the cab floor and all around the heater, welded up some gas axe holes in the rear cab panel and rebuild the terribly cobbled seat mount. We found the feed-thru ports for the AC and it seems odd, the condenser goes in the electrical panel door and then a short hose right to the evaporator, Interesting!!
Have to buy a new underfloor duct for the defroster as it was all in tough shape. New cab air filter and new hose, new seals on the box covers. So there is one big open grille behind the seat, it seems that this needs some type of filter, without any restriction, the heater can't draw in outside air and pressurize the cab. Almost think a piece of carpet felt jute would work well.
I was looking up the new parts for the AC system, hoses I think would be a good purchase from JD, compressor is likely used in other places. Will have to see about working with the cab feed thru fittings. It might be best to find a breaker and see what they want for the whole kit of parts. We have a couple young guys working the machine and a couple not young guys who'd appreciate the AC and clean cab air, plus it looks like a fun project.
Any thoughts on sourcing the bits and pieces?
