988H Cat lift cylinders and mounting seals S/N BXY00384

$

Looks like I have to pull both the lift cylinders off this 988H due to seals leaking at the mounting pins, not the rod seals. Figures one seal on each cylinder is leaking!

This machine has what Cat calls "Maintenance Free Linkage Seals"

Looks to be a pretty simple job, IF they will come off with fenders and front tires in place. Looks close.

Just wondering if there are any "got ya's" Looking at the book/SIS seems I need a couple special tools to install the seals. Or is it doable with out them if one is very gentile with them like the Duo-cone seals?

One possible advantage is bucket is off being rebuilt so if I need to hold boom up to gain clearance a couple good Jack Stands should take care of that.

Still a believer

I had posted a topic about snow tires for loaders at the start of the winter season. Some had never heard of such a thing, and were intrigued by the idea, while others scoffed at the notion, and figured the expense to be too great. I agree, that wheel chains would provide great traction, for far less money. But...many towns, or cities won't allow chains. People don't appreciate chain scratches in their asphalt driveway, and I am not sure how well they hold up when driving long distances at road speed. Our company( meaning the company I work for ) Does well over a million dollars worth of plowing each winter. This is all parking lots, and private driveways. They gave up government and city contracts years ago because they felt there was no money in it. My grader sits in a snowbank waiting for the road building season to start. Anyway, the plowing is spread out over a large area. The Volvo loaders do the driving because they are fast, and the cat loaders stick to the large shopping centers. 1 L45, 2 L70s, 4 L90s, 1 L150, 1 950H, 1 972, and one Case loader all have snow tires, and 1 950G has regular rock tires. That's over 80 grand in snow tires, plus the expense of swapping them over twice a year. Like all companies, they always do the we're not making any money song and dance, but they figure the tire expense is worth it because we can get it done faster, so they can take on more plowing. We were trucking snow this week, and I was watching the 2 950s pushing snow banks back. The one with the snow tires was running circles around the one without. Now I know that in this off road situation, the G could have chained up, and problem solved, but then he would have to take them back off, and so on. Guess what I am saying, is that if you have the work, and can afford the cost, I think they are worth it.

john Deere 544h oil pressure light

I have a john Deere 544h. Thus doesn't happen all the time but once in awhile the oil pressure light and alarm will come on. I checked the oil level and it is full of oil. I also replaced the oil filter on it. Was thinking maybe a oil pressure sensor if it has one. Has anyone ever have a problem like this before. Thanks

Volvo L330C and Komatsu WA320-5 Wheel Loader

Looked at a couple wheel loaders today. One was a Volvo L330C and Komatsu WA320-5. Both have around 20K hours. Tread is about 50% and everything seems to work fine. A few small oil leaks on drivetrain components but nothing major. The Volvo was in a quarry most of it's life and last 5K hours have been on a farm to remove brush. Komatsu was used by a utility company building roads, etc...

I personally like the Volvo since it has the larger 8.6 yard bucket so I can use it to mix dairy forage faster compared to the 3 yard on the Komatsu. Besides that I am not sure what it the better choice since both seem to work well.

Is there any good and bad I should anticipate on either model or expect to break in the near future and cost the farm to repair?

L90C third valve

Have a L90c with no 3rd function. There is a 3rd valve already set up but there are no lines or pilot valve in the cab. I read a post about a similar situation in here for a L180D. My local dealer said there is no kit. For kicks I gave him the part number posted for the 180D. He told me its a $4400 kit. Is this right?? A pilot valve and hoses that expensive? I know it may not even be the right one for my loader but still, that's crazy money. Besides that, is that the kit I would need?

Looking to buy used wheel loader. These two machines seem to be about the same size. These are the years I can afford. The c models seem to be 10-15k cheaper. Plan on loading trucks in small sand pit. I only have 3 trucks and don't load others much. Both have 20k plus hours. I haven't looked at the 966c yet. I have loaded with a 966b a little bit. I'm afraid there's not much difference in the b and c models. Any suggestions appreciated. Tony

Greetings every. I'm new to this site and trying to
Learn how to navigate.Excuse me if this question
Has been asked before. I'm about to change out
The air compressor (air over hydro brakes).
The compressor is Sandwiched between the
engine and fuel injection pump. How do I ensure
the injection will be in proper timing when I connect
it back to the compressor? ALL good suggestion
Will be greatly appreciated!

Looking for Advise on Replacement Loader for IH/Dresser 515B's?

$

I've have 2 IH/Dresser 515B Wheel Loaders over the past 15 years that have treated me good most of the time but now are getting to the point where they have a lot of wear on them and major parts need to be replaced. One is already a parts loader for the running one. I'm in the market for a loader of the same time frame or a little newer but without all the electronics that can give more problems. Also could use a little more power and for sure a larger bucket, at least a 3 yard+ light material bucket to be used for dairy silage.

I've seen a few Dresser/Komatsu 525's, and 530's for sale in nearby states and was wondering if the parts on my 515B's could be used on either of these. I am thinking some parts could fit but maybe they are totally different altogether. I don't have access to any parts manuals to compare at this point.

Also looked at my neighbors John Deere late 80's model 644's. He has 4 of them as he used to run a landscaping/snow removal business a few years back. I believe they are D, CJ and E models. They are a little larger loaders and have the bigger 4 yards buckets. The problem I have is I have no experience with John Deere loaders so I'm not sure if these ones are reliable machines and worth investigating further.

Any advise on which loaders would be the better ones to look at?

4th function? Can i disable?

Hi Everyone, Let me give a quick overview. I have a 2011 John Deere 244J compact wheel loader, bought used last year. It has 3rd and 4 th function. We just use during summer months then sits in our shop, we drive once a month to keep things intact etc. We will NEVER use the 4th function, the issue I am having, after we use the loader for 30 mins or 4 hours, when we park it, each hydro line from the 4th function that goes to the front bucket area to accept an attachment, "drips" 2-3 oz per side for a day or two, then basically stops, which I'm confused about...is it because the machine ran, fluid is moving thru lines, even though no attachment is hooked? Is the o-ring expanding/contracting??. I went online got a parts breakdown, seems John Deere want $75.05 per ORING!!!!, so, is there a way to "cap" off or am I asking for trouble, or some how bite the bullet for o-ring. I'm somewhat mechanically able I "think" for this task....:Banghead

michigan 175a wheel loader 4wd not working

Hello. I have recently purchased a michigan 175a wheel loader, and I'm having a few issues.
First issue is that I have absolutely no brakes. I need to rebuild the master cylinder but I live in alaska and have been unable to find anyone with parts for these. I also need some steering parts that are worn out and sloppy. Anyone know where I can order parts for these loaders?
Second problem is that I can't get it to go into 4wd. What I mean by that is that I can't get the lever to engage. It seems to be froze up inside the box at the bottom of the transmission where the rear driveshaft comes out. Any ideas?
Otherwise its a great running machine. Starts right up, hydraulics are strong, and moves right along. Just want to make it safe and usable around my acreage.
Thanks.

Quick couplers

Guys - have an older Fiat Allis 645B wheel loader that I want to add a quick coupler to for switching from bucket, to pallet forks to bale spear, etc..... I'm going to be fabricating one myself for this so I can do what I want. I don't know all the terminology or types really but am wondering if I should make it to use the same pattern as a Cat IT28 style, or a JRB style or something else? What's more common for future attachments do you think? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
